Google has once again capriciously decided (for reasons unclear) to NOT acknowledge Memorial Day with a special home page graphic, even though they celebrated the following days with "Holiday Logos" this year:
125th Birthday of Walter Gropius - May 18, 2008
Invention of the First Laser - May 16, 2008
Earth Day - April 22, 2008
Persian New Year - March 20, 2008
Chinese New Year - February 7, 2008
50th anniversary of the LEGO brick - January 28, 2008

huh? you're right...that is interesting that Memorial day got nothing.
any thoughts on why?
Hey RC...
I really dunno.
Google has been regularly criticized by the more vocal flag pin wearing members of the blogsphere for exhibiting their over the top Liberalism by ignoring traditional American holidays that have a "military" theme. They also ignored Veteran's Day until last year.
I don't think of Memorial or Veteran's Days in terms of Left or Right. And not having heard Google's side of the story, I'd like to give them the benefit of the doubt. It's a free country and they certainly have the right to celebrate or ignore ANYTHING they choose.
But it's a pretty telling dog that didn't bark for them to once again ignore Memorial day.
